We welcome our new Director of Music and Organist, Mr. Brett Patterson.

Mr. Patterson comes to us from the Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier in Alexandria, LA. Born in Vancouver, Canada, as an Anglican, Mr. Patterson began studying the piano at age five after his family moved to Salt Lake City, UT. He was a founding chorister at the Madeleine Choir School in 1996. While at the Madeleine Choir School, Mr. Patterson was a soloist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on their 1996 international Thanksgiving television broadcast.He beegan his organ studies at age 11. For two years, he served as Head Chorister at the Cathedral of the Madeleine and received the Bishop’s Award for Outstanding Chorister of the Year upon graduation from the Choir School. In 2000 he sang with the Cathedral of the Madeleine Choir in the production of the PBS special “A Cathedral Christmas.”

He received his Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance in 2007 from Pacific University in Tacoma, WA., and his Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and Sacred Music from the University of Texas at Austin where he studied with Dr. Gerre Hancock and Dr. Judith Hancock. In the summer of 2008, Brett studied with the Brittish Cathedral Choral tradition at Kings College and St. John’s College, Cambridge; Westminster Cathedral, St. Pauls Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey.

Originally interviewed and hired to be the assistant organist at Our Lady of the Atonement and teacher at the Academy, he was appointed to be the Director of Music on October 30th.
